Baptism of Sister Damne!

                                                              April 29th, 2019

Hola friends and family!

This week we had the baptism of Sister Damne! It was so beautiful! She shared her testimony that God has a time and a plan for each of His children. She told us that she did not feel that she received a direct response to the gospel, but that each of us receive our answers in different ways. She testified of the Book of Mormon and how she feels a great need to read it every day. She said that she has met many missionaries before, but it was not her time, and finally she decided to read the Book of Mormon and that is what helped her feel the truthfulness of the gospel in her life. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to meet her and be a part of her conversion to the gospel. Meeting Sister Damne has helped me a lot in the growth of my testimony of the Book of Mormon and the power of it. I know that this book works miracles in the lives of people only if they read it and give it the opportunity to do so. I testify that this book is true and is revelation for each one of us.

We had the opportunity to meet with 2 families this week that we haven't been able to contact in the past. They are so good and we have really felt that they are golden. We have also had some very nice experiences while contacting and trying to find houses from our contacts. The other day we knocked on a door looking for one of our contacts and there was a girl named Camila and her uncle, Kevin. We took her information and made an appointment for another day. Within 3 min. we had passed through another area and we turned to see Camila running to us. She asked us if we could come through another street on Saturday. She told us that she was at her grandmother's house with her uncle, but that her parents will be at her house on Saturday at 11 in the morning. This experience surprised me because she was a girl, but she had felt something when she met us and really wanted to hear the gospel. I realized that children are very special. Maybe when we are adults we can not really see missionaries as representatives of Jesus Christ. When children see and hear us they look and feel something special. I really believe that they are closer to the veil.

I am again sorry if this doesn't make perfect sense as I changed it from Spanish to English :)

Love you all,

Hermana Roe

United as a companionship

Hello Hello!                                           May 27th, 2019

Wow! I don't know how you all are doing, but I had an amazing week!

We are teaching the Masias family. We were able to give them a baptismal date for the 29th of June! They really are so amazing. They have been preparing to receive the message of the Gospel and we are acting as the hands of the Lord to help them on their way! It is truly amazing to see how when people do the challenges that we give them, they really begin to change their lives and see the blessings that they receive along the way. María the mom of the family told us that their family has been going through a lot of difficulties and that since we showed up the first day, little by little they have been going away or getting better. I truly can testify of the power of the gospel in our lives!

Another thing that I absolutely love is teaching for the needs of the people and not just teaching lessons. These people are children of God and they all have different needs in life. If we truly listen to them, we can help them. We had an experience the other day when we went to teach a lady named Zurma. We went and had planned a lesson beforehand, but as a companionship something that we like to do is start with a prayer to invite the spirit, and then ask an inspired question to find the need of the person. If it be that their need is not what we had planned then we change the plan and teach to that need. So that is what we did. And we began teaching her about the love that God has for her and how in whatever difficult circumstance she may be going through he is always going to be there for her. She was able to open up and express some concerns that she has had and we were able to help her feel the spirit and she got a confirmation of the message that we taught. The spirit was so strong and as a companionship, we were united. We taught smoothly and clearly and many times in the lesson things popped in my head to share and my companion would start sharing exactly that or when she was talking I started looking for a scripture to share and support what she was saying and she was in sync thinking the same. I loved this experience and the opportunity that we have to truly work with the spirit when we are united in a companionship and really give our all to the work and put our trust in the Lord. When you do that, you see miracles each and every day!

What can you change in your life in this moment to see the miracle that the Lord has in store for you? Maybe it's to be more obedient, listen more, study more, repent, etc... Whatever it is, do it. I promise that you will start to see the blessings that await you and the miracles that are just around the bend.

Oh yeah so we also had an earthquake, I don't know if the news reached there or not, but we are all good... it was pretty interesting because it happened at 2:50 in the early morning! And it was looooong! Everyone gets so scared when there is an earthquake here because we are so close to the ocean and it could cause a tsunami, but it's all good right now. Salaverry is still awesome!!

Have a great week!! Love you all so much!

Hermana Roe

From mountains to the coast!

Hola all!                                                                             May 13, 2019

Yeah so lots has happened this week! We had changes and I left Huaraz! I am now in Salaverry, Trujillo.. it is like the exact opposite of Huaraz! I am now on the Pacific Coast, and I have the view of the beach right out my front WINDOW! I have windows in my apartment now! Wooo Hooo finallly!!! I honestly LOVE it here. Below I changed my Spanish to English through Google translate again so that is why it might not make perfect sense.

We had many very nice experiences this week. A very special one was when we met Cinthia and María. We were walking to find Cinthia's house and on the way she opened a door and we started contacting her (because we did not meet Cinthia before) and she was Cinthia. She was in her mom's house before. Then, she allowed us to come in and share a message. We asked if there were other people who wanted to hear the message and she invited her mother. In this lesson we really listened and followed the spirit. They are having some difficulties in their family right now and told us about these challenges. We taught them about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and His love that he has for each one of us. That He knows us perfectly and can help us if we allow him. We ended with the power of prayer and our connection with our Heavenly Father and how He can help us face any difficulties we have in this life. The Spirit was very strong and the lesson was very powerful. After the lesson we asked them how they felt. Maria spoke to us and said that before we came she was feeling very bad, but when we came she felt an inexplicable peace. She felt that something came and took away everything she had been carrying. She felt a great relief. They committed to coming to church this Sunday and they came. It was so nice to see them there in the chapel. I know there are many people ready to receive the gospel in their lives here in Salaverry and with the help of the Lord, we are going to find them

Sister Chacón really is the best! I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to have her as my partner. We are giving this our everything and I feel so much joy and enthusiasm to work!
