One more week at the CCM(MTC)!!!

PROCELYTISMO!!

Hola Todos!
One more week and I am out in the field!! Totally crazy to think about! I feel like I just got here!! This week has been fillled with blessings and excitement! We got to go out into the world outstide of the CCM walls last Saturday to go procelyting with senior companions in the area! It was such an awesome and humbling experience! The people here are so kind and humble! I got to go in a trio with my CCM comp. and a senior comp. latina! We went to an appointment, but it fell through because he wasn't home. So instead we continued procelyting down the street and "knocked" on a neighbor's place, I say knocked because the "houses" are mostly gated and all locked from the outside so we were just yelling hola haha but there was a man talking on the phone so we waited for him to finish and then he came and talked to us. (little back story,, families literally alll live together in one house... so one of the family members in this household was a recent convert and so we were visiting to just say hi to him, but he wasn't there so we ended up talking to this other guy) We invited him to church and gave him a pass along card, and then asked if he wanted to here a message, he said yeah he did. So we went "in his house" and he got his 2 hijos and we sat on some stools to share our message. He has had a lot of problems lately with the mother of his kids and them separating, so he was really humble and open to our message! We were able to share some scriptures with him and talk to him about the book of mormon and plan of salvation. By the end of the meeting, he agreed to be baptized and has a date set for 23 de Junio!! God really does prepare people! Hopefully the latina companion will send me a pic when it happens! #firstbaptism lol This work is so great! and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PEOPLE HERE! They are so happy and kind, and most of them have nothing but a make shift garage that they are liviing in!

Also I taught my district class Sunday on Obedience and it went so well!

Try to be thankful this week! Start a habit of writing down gratitudes of the day! It is proven that when you are grateful you are happier!

Next time I write I willl be out in the field! love you all!!

1 month at the Peru CCM (MTC)

Holaaaa!

A lot has happened this week!! But I don´t have a lot of time.. so here are some main points!

- On Thursday, I experienced my first earthquake!! It happened at 6am and my entire bed was sHaKiNg! Also, we had a smaller one yesterday around 8am during class.. (so here in Peru, they have small earthquakes here and there to counteract big ones, so I guess that´s a good thing! haha)

- Yesterday we had a lesson with Marcelo Lopez. We decided to talk about agency and our role in choosing to follow the commandments! It went soooo well! He is working on the Word of Wisdom with coffee drinking and has goals set...super proud!! haha anyway, so after the lessons that day our Teacher (Hermano Meza) (the one who plays Marcelo) took us into the hall and told us that we did very good and that we are going to be great missionaries in the field! Yaay!!

- Sunday! So we have to write a talk in Spanish every week and then they pick out the people who are going to speak the day during sacrament! So I was picked this week and I am so glad because I worked really hard on it! It was on Faith in Jesucristo y su Expiacion (Atonement)! I shared an exerpt that I love from the book Believing Christ, and it was awesome! Afterwards a lady visiting came up to me and told me that my Spanish is really good and she was really impressed and told me to keep going! She said she has been a language professor for spanish for years!! That definitely boosted my self esteem! haha

- We taught our other investigator one night and met her boyfriend who she lives with.. it was a train wreck for everyone hahahahaha but soooo funny to laugh at after! I had said the quote that is my email name... and then said that we are here to become women instead of our best person... mujer mejor (they are alike hahaha) then another hermana said that Jose smith was a young man, he was 40 years old hahaha!! Oh it was great! I'm just glad it happened at the CCM and not out in the field! Two more weeks here!! Love you all! Thank you for your support!! Have a great week!!

Love,
Hermana Roe

3rd week at the CCM!

Hola!
I am officially an Avansado! That means I only have 3 more weeks here at the CCM and that today, my district is the only group here! Early this morning all of the latinos and the other avonsados left for the mission field! It's super sad because I made so many friends with all of them!! But they are all going to be great missionaries! Now, it's just been really quiet all day and we will be getting the new principiantes tonight! There are 26 americans coming! That's a pretty big group compared to what we've been used to! I am just glad I came when I did because I heard that in the summer the numbers get up to 90! That's insane! So, now my district has to be the example to everyone who comes!! It's crazy because when we first got here, we looked at our Avansados like they were kings and queens haha and here I am!

Cool experiences with the Holy Ghost:
On Thursday, mi Compañera and I planned a lesson with one of our investigators, Marcelo Lopez (my teacher acting), La Expiacion (the atonement)... So, here is the thing about planning lessons. You put in all of your effort to plan a lesson and show the Lord that you are prepared, and then you have to have fe (faith) and walking into the casita allowing the holy ghost to teach and touch the investigator. So we walked into the casita, and then Marcelo got talking to us and we ended up teaching about Jose(Joseph) Smith, a TOTALLY different lesson! haha But, because we were prepared, the spirit helped us to find what we needed to teach him about Jose(Joseph) Smith!
On Saturday, we had another lesson with Marcelo, we planned on starting our lesson talking about fe (faith) and then lead into the atonement... again, the spirit had other ideas. This time, we started talking about faith and Marcelo was really attentive, we asked lots of questions and he was really receptive with talking to us, then he popped the question asking about baptism! So, we talked to him and he ended up commiting to think about baptism, and get back to us on his next lesson! (also to go to church, and read his scriptures cada dia!)

Fun with Latinos:
On Friday we had a pancito contest between our hermanas in our district and the hermanas in a latino district.....we won with 80 between us!! (pancitos are little rolls)... yeah....never again.. haha

Yesterday I made a bet with one the latino Elders, Elder Montez  that if he could recite the first vision to me by dinner, then I would give him my ice cream and if I recited Mosiah 10:4-5 in spanish, he would give me his! It was fun, and we both won! It's so fun because we are all learning and get to help teach eachother!

Have a great week everyone!!

2nd Week in Peru CCM (MTC)

Hola!

Another week in Peru at the CCM!
It is so beautiful here!
The language is coming! The gift of tongues is real!
Wow, I have had so many spiritual experiences this week!
On Sunday we had an AWESOME devotional by David A. Bednar! He answered the question, How do I know if it's the Holy Ghost or not?
Answer: QUIT WORRYING ABOUT IT! - If you are being good, and you press forward in faith, your steps wil be guided and if you do so, whatever you choose to do will be good. So be good!!

My district did an English fast this week and it really helped!! Only spanish and no english! We plan on doing a couple this week as well to get our spanish and the gift of tongues rolling!

I have officially memorized:
the first vision
the mission objective
Moroni 10 4-5
Invitation to be baptized
& Santiago (James) 1:5
IN SPANISH!! -----literally such an accomplishment!!

My dad would be proud to hear, as he loves goals... that I have several goals set for language and shtufff! haha WORKINHARDD

So, yeah, missions are really hard. I have prayed more than ever in my entire life. But I know this gospel is true and I know that I was sent here for a reason!
Last night during Book of Mormon study we were studying Alma 18 --- it's the story of Ammon and King Lamoni's conversion.. my teacher told us to write down a personal question and I had been having a difficuolt time, so I wrote down, "am I doing the right thing being here?" I will tell you right now. I AM. I received an overwhelming feeling of the spirit and an answer to my prayer as soon as we started reading. Especially verses 34-35. I was called to be here for a reason and I need to press forward in faith and I know that I will be able to do all things the Lord needs me to do with His help and guidance!

Sorry this is short, but I want to see if I can get some pics that actually work this time!

Te amo!

1st week in Lima Peru!

Hola familia y amigos!
I am alive and well in Lima, Peru at the CCM! aka mtc

The plane: was HUGE! 2 seats on each side and 3 in the middle with about 46 rows... about 322 people!!! We arrived in Lima about 1am and a bus took us to the CCM. (8hermanas y 3elderes) The city is ALIVE at night! Traffic was insane, and people were walking/biking like it was the afternoon! Haha I am so glad I don't have to drive because they drive crazy down here.. lots of honking and swerving, no use of blinkers, either no lines or lines everywere, and crazy intersections! I wouldn't even know what to do!

The CCM is really small, but I like it because it reminds me of home! I think culture and language change is enough! Mi Compañera is Hermana Jones! She is awesome! She is from Arizona and her first name is McKinlie! (Kin that"s for you!)

Miercoles
The first day at the CCM was really long and literally felt like a WEEK! But it was really good!
Jueves
Mucho mucho Español! Español es muy dificile! Lots of stress, but I have the Lord on my side!
Viernes
The day went by really fast! I learned how to pray in spanish and lots more spanish haha. My compañera and I taught our first mini lesson to our "investigator" Sandra Rojas! She is progressing pretty well and we are getting better every day! They start us right off the bat! lol
Sabado
Today I really felt the Don de Lenguas (gift of tongues) working.. I experienced a lot of lightbulb moments on understanding the language! It was really good because I have really been struggling... there is hope! Also, it's kind of great because a lot of the latino Elders will come up to us and ask how to say things in English. It's really funny, and it really opened up my eyes to see that we can all learn and help one another with our different idiomas. (languages!)
Domingo
I love Sundays! The spirit was sooooo strong all day! Also, Sundays are our ingles days! So we get a break from spanish and really get to get a spiritual reboost!!#pumped We got to watch a devotional from Elder Holland! He is so great! I love when he is forceful and raises his voice because it is like he is pushing gusts of the spirit at you!
Lunes
Today was a hard day, I won't lie. But my compañera is so amazing and she really was my tender mercy!
Martes
My favorite part of today was that we had a devotional from Elder Christofferson on the spirit and personal revelation, but the best part was after when we talked about it together as a district! I love my district! We are literally like family and it is so great!
Miercoles
Today we went to the temple! It was the smallest temple I have been to! Smaller than Chicago, but it was really great!

The weather here is so nice! Yes, it is humid, but not as bad as I thought and btw.. I literally only saw like 3 mosquitos all week... The food is FANTASTIC! Yes most of the meals consist of potatoes, meat, and rice, but there is so much variety and creativity too! haha Although it is great, my body is still adjusting to the difference! It is sooo beautiful here!! I absolutely LOVE it!

Thank you for all of your prayers! I really need them!

In my personal study this week I studied Enos and it really helped me get through the week! Enos 1:12! Whatever you will ask in faith, believing that ye shall reveive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it! I reallllly needed this for don de lenguas!!

Mom - on Mother's Day (sunday the 13th) I get to call you for 30 mins at 5:35pm! BE NEXT TO THE PHONE AND READY!!!

Te Amo,
Hermana Roe
